Wishlist: Chanel Spring Summer 2023
“Our identities are lifelong, evolving art projects.”
So opens Kristen Stewart in Chanel’s film for the ready-to-wear collection for Spring Summer 2023. This notion rings true to the act of dressing up - or as most of us call it, putting on clothes for the day.
While practicality and comfort often dictate what we put on for the day, there’s something delicious about using what you wear to assume a new identity. Is she an elegant, mysterious woman sipping coffee behind her Celine sunglasses and Serpenti bracelet at the hotel breakfast? Or is she a local girl in Nike running shorts and sunscreen out for a hike with her sister?
I was both of these girls on my recent trip home to Honolulu. Walking through the lobby of the Halekulani, I was very aware of how my choices created personas that not only impacted how others perceived me, but how I felt in my skin. When did I feel my best? When I was a Chanel girl, and I brought all of my favorites from the Cruise 2022/23 collection (more on my picks here).
With Virginie Viard’s Spring Summer 2023 collection, there were many identities to choose from - but here are my favorites.

This jacket dress takes our collective love for polka dots to a whole new level. Would come in handy for so many occasions - a wedding, a jazz outdoor gala event, or anywhere you might need to be a little conservative while dressed up. I love how the impeccable construction of Chanel jackets make you feel confident and pulled together, and I imagine this one will make you feel amazing. Note - I texted my SA and this piece is very expensive, as is most of this collection!

Same concept as above, except now with feathers! To truly appreciate this piece - and in fact many pieces from the collection - you really need to watch the show. Seeing these fabrics in motion allow you to see how magical they are.
What I love about both of these jacket dress pieces is the fun length - playful, coy, chic.

This white tweed jacket looks very versatile. It’s a lightweight, which is good for warmer months or on vacation. Wear it with jeans and a tshirt, or over your shoulders with a black dress.

Also can you imagine pairing it with the matching tweed mini!

I spied a cardigan in the best shade of pink under this jumpsuit.

Love this shade of mint green, and the feathers make the skirt dance and you walk. This would be so chic at an English garden wedding, which I always dream of but am never invited to ;)

Imagine wearing this to a Gatsby-esque New Year’s Eve soiree. This is another of these magical fabrics that glide lighter than air as you walk.

You’ll have this little black dress forever. Bring her out for every wedding, event, gala… when you have one of those “i don’t have anything to wear” moments, you’ll have her.
I try to buy dresses that I will keep for more than a decade, and this looks to fit the bill. As Lisa Ing Marinelli says, #buywellnotoften

Adored the color palette of this collection - white, black, pastels, and metallics. The architectural nature of this skirt made a classic black Chanel skirt truly special, and moved with the body.

A fan favorite - this most definitely will be featured in the campaign. The bodysuit with a bow is reminiscent of the iconic bow top that Jennie wore to the Spring Summer 2020 show.

Love this quilted evening bag…but will it fit a phone??
“I think it’s important to burn down your very best yesterday, so you can start again,” continues Stewart.
This idea is true for the concept of getting dressed - literally removing yesterday’s clothes and starting fresh. But it’s also an observation on Virginie Viard’s collections for Chanel. Burning the codes? Never. Endeavoring to better the best? Always.
