Wishlist: Chanel Metiers d’Art 2023

I’ve been contemplating the return of floor skimming bootcut jeans for a while now, and with Chanel’s ready to wear collection Metiers d’Art 2023… I’m all in.

Metiers showcases the artisans behind Chanel, and the technique demonstrated with this collection did not disappoint. The fact that Chanel has been investing in centuries-old artisan collectives to ensure the survival of their craft is what makes the house so special, and with this collection they demonstrated that they’re building on this even further.

This particular Metiers collection was shown in Dakar, Senegal, and featured artists local to the area that Chanel intends to support. The vibrant colors were so fresh and wearable. It felt like we were turning a page, with a new set of colors, shapes, and proportions. Here are some of the pieces on my wishlist.

Look 4

A classic, lightweight jacket with gold CC buttons.

Close up of the CC buttons from look 4 - love the gold detailing.

Look 14

If these jeans have stretch, they will be amazing. We shall see!

Look 16

Love skirts that hit below the knee, and with this slit it’s even better. I find that black Chanel skirts are such a good buy - they go with so many different tops / sweaters, and look classic with an extra touch.

Look 29

Not sure why, but whenever I wear this style of pants/shoes combo, I always feel like the best version of myself.

Look 33

Asked my SA about this jacket and the version with beading was eye wateringly expensive. Fortunately for me, it also comes in a version without the beading 🙂 Such a fun, youthful cut - I could see this being very wearable for casual outfits.

Look 49

Can we talk about this print? Love a white Chanel CC, and the print makes it not immediately obvious until you get up close.

Look 50

The blue shade of this bag is so fresh, and the wooden handle makes it a collector’s piece. It’s also interesting to see an emphasis on peplum skirts in this collection - not sure I’m ready for it but once I try it in stores I’m sure I’ll be a fan.

Look 62

The closing look was such a showstopper. I love this style of sleeves as they’re super flattering, as is the asymmetrical slit in the skirt. The soft glimmer created by the beading elevated the look even further, and the top actually has buttons down the back, which I always love.

This collection is expected in boutiques June 2023. Can’t wait to see it in person!
